A few days ago, a former client wrote a wonderful review for us on Google. In it, he wrote that we had presented two sets of plans for their renovation,“the ones we asked for … which were OK, and then the dream kitchen we didn’t even know we wanted till we saw the plans.”

This touching review, besides making us feel great, made us laugh! We’ve always joked that we like to give people architectural plans they didn’t know they wanted. For us, it’s so important to listen, really listen, to what our clients say they want. It’s also important for us to understand why they want it. Sometimes the two things go hand in hand, and the design is apparent quickly. Other times, there is a design solution that takes trial and error to find- a perfect fit that might not be so obvious.

Either way, we know it when it happens. We work until we find it. We are married and have kids and a home and a busy, wonderful life. Sometimes the answer comes to us Monday morning when we start our work week. More often the answer comes while we’re making dinner on a Friday night, after working all week to create the perfect plan for a client. We are grateful for these revelations — and are always so thrilled when a client is, too.
