In our architecture business, we generally do two things. We design new homes or buildings for clients, or we do renovations on existing structures. I’m not sure which we enjoy more, each has unique aspects that we love.

It’s exciting to see a piece of land and hear a client’s dreams about the kind of home or business they want to build. We get to create something from nothing. Even after almost 25 years in the business, it’s still exciting to watch one of our plans turn into something real by a group of talented craftsmen.

Ahh, but then there’s renovations. We love old homes, we love brick ranches, we love bungalows and cottages and Tudors and mid-century modern. In fact, there are very few times we go into a potential client’s home and don’t see wonderful possibilities by the time we leave. We’ve renovated quite a few homes ourselves, we understand what’s underneath.

We do have a pet penchant for renovating kitchens. Oh, the horrors of a poorly designed kitchen! We just love fixing those. A good kitchen renovation is the best improvement you can give a house that needs it — not just for resale value, but for daily life value. The joys of cooking and eating in a well-designed and nicely finished kitchen are a wonder.

No matter what kind of plans we draw — whether new construction, a renovation, or even just a kitchen, trust that we enjoy it all, and are thankful for each client and project.
